State A Billion Dollars A Year Short For Schools

An education advocacy group says the  state has been underfunding Massachusetts public schools by a  billion-dollars a year.

The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center says  the issue is causing districts across the state to cut teachers,  classroom supplies and technology.

The group says the problem is caused  by the state failing to update the school funding formula for over two  decades.

The report urges lawmakers to take steps to increase funding  for schools.
