Mayor Need Not Speak To Democrats

The state Democratic Party convention this fall is going to be held in Springfield.

However, the city's mayor is not going be among the invited speakers.

The party's state committee voted l not to invite Domenic Sarno to speak, citing his support for Republican Governor Charlie Baker in last fall's midterm election.

Sarno was among almost two dozen Democratic mayors who endorsed Baker for a second-term.

Sarno penned a handwritten letter, not mentioning the committee's action that offered whatever assistance they needed to make their convention a success.

However, to reporters in a statement, the Mayor said that it is of no real concern to him because it meant that the weekend of the convention he could get to important neighborhood events and spend more time with his family.

The Governor, who received the endorsement of the Mayor has not commented.
