Springfield Man Arrested For Second Time On Drug Charges

Springfield Police have arrested a drug dealer for the second time in 10 weeks. 48 year old Carlos Lopez was arrested on Longmeadow Street outside of a convenience store in Longmeadow. Police officials say the first time Lopez was arrested police confiscated 30 thousand bags of heroin. This time police confiscated just 330 dollars in cash, but over 12 thousand packets of heroin.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “Once again, as we continue the ongoing struggle to address the Opioid Crisis in our Commonwealth and our nation, these individuals who deal this poison are far too often able to get right back into our city streets and neighborhoods thanks to low bails, no bails or as Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood stated, ‘on ineffective GPS bracelets’. We cannot continue to make positive changes in address the Opioid Crisis if our systems, which we have in place, continue to let those individuals pushing this product go free with little to no consequences for their actions which negatively hurt our loved ones.”

New York officials were involved after it was learned that Lopez was originally headed to that state for drugs.
