More Issues For MBTA Trains

An MBTA Orange Line train caught fire on Thursday morning, forcing passengers to evacuate through the windows.

The train stopped while crossing the Mystic River in Somerville.

One woman jumped into the river, refused to be rescued by a boat, and made it to shore.

No injuries were reported during the ordeal.

The fire was apparently caused by a metal component of the train making contact with the third rail.

Manufacturer CRRC is assembling new Orange Line cars in Springfield, and some have already been added to the MBTA's fleet.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says she will be pushing for more system wide upgrades.
