Governor: "Everything Will Be With The Veteran In Mind"

A groundbreaking was held for the new Holyoke Veterans' Home on Monday.

Governor Maura Healey was among those with a shovel in hand near the former Holyoke Soldiers' Home on Cherry Street.

Healey said this is a 482-million-dollar investment in a facility that everyone will be proud of.

The replacement was spurred by a coronavirus outbreak at the Soldiers' Home which killed nearly one-hundred veterans in 2020.

Meantime, some of the family members say they are thankful for the new building. They say it was desperately needed. But they also say it is important for the complex to be both fully staffed and funded.
