Strep Remedy In Short Supply In State, Region

Local officials are concerned about a nationwide lack of an antibiotic used to treat a common, but potentially serious infection.

As cold and flu season progresses, cases of strep throat are rising.

The illness is a bacterial infection that brings a sore, scratchy throat, along with a fever, and can become serious if not treated.

Amoxicillin is the antibiotic generally prescribed for the illness, but spot shortages are an issue.

Strep is spread through direct contact or respiratory droplets-residents are encouraged to keep their hands clean and cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze.
